The McNutt House offers multi-room suites with kitchen and efficiency suites with kitchenette, each ideal for a weekend get away, business travel or extended stay lodging at competitive prices. All guest rooms and suites contain customary amenities found in most hotels plus complimentary HDTV, wireless internet and laundry facilities.

Facilities

The McNutt House features old world charm blended with modern conveniences and amenities superior to most local hotels. The main house has 3 Suites with kitchen containing electric range, refrigerator, microwave oven and a variety of small appliances. Efficiency suites in the Magill House include kitchenettes with refrigerator, coffee maker, microwave oven and large toaster oven adequate for preparing meals. All include dishes, cookware and customary amenities found at hotels including hairdryer, soap, shampoo, iron and ironing board.

Guests receive a complimentary guided tour of the facility, HDTV, Starz premium movie package and wireless internet in addition to use of laundry facilities, courtyard, picnic area and BBQ grills. Out of courtesy to our current and future guests, all rooms are non-smoking. Smoking is permitted on the balcony, porches and grounds. Short term rates include weekly housekeeping.

The McNutt House

The McNutt House is conveniently located in the Historic Downtown District, is just minutes from the National Military Park, Old Courthouse Museum, casinos, riverfront, eateries, evening entertainment and frequent downtown events. The house was built in 1826 and acquired by Governor McNutt in 1829 who subsequently added on the rear wing of the house in 1832. McNutt is best remembered for his staunch efforts to regulate banking, creation of the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) and for signing into law the right of women to own property in MS. The main floor rooms now serve host to special occasion events and business meetings. Portraits of Mr. and Mrs. McNutt hang over coal burning fireplaces with their original ornate cast iron mantles. Other portions of the house include three suites, each offering their own character and charm affording a unique and enjoyable stay.

The McNutt Suite - This large 3-room suite once served as the Governor's 2nd floor living quarters. Hardwood floors, coal burning fireplaces, panoramic views of the courtyard and spectacular sunsets can be seen from the kitchen and living room. The suite includes an extremely comfortable hand crafted cherry king bed, sleeper sofa, dedicated central heat/air and a private bath with tub and shower. HD programming with premium movie chanels and wireless internet are but a few amenities. The courtyard with multiple decks, patios and gardens beckon your use. Rates: $135.00 for a single night, $125 per day for 2 or more nights. $1,400 per month for extended stays exceeding 3 months.

Bettie Suite - Named for Mrs. Elizabeth "Bettie" McNutt, this two room Suite is situated on the 2nd floor with a balcony entrance overlooking the courtyard and at eye level with the expanse of the region's oldest Japanese Magnolia tree. The bedroom is quite large featuring a very comfortable hand crafted queen bed, original hard pine floors, ample dresser drawer space and a coal burning fireplace. The Suite includes a kitchen, private bath with shower and dedicated central heat/air. Rates: $85.00 for a single night, $75 per day for 2 or more day stay and $1,250 per month for extend stay. Short term rates include weekly house keeping.

Governor's Suite - Freshly remodeled - the first floor bedroom of this suite originally served as Gov. McNutt's private office with a Monroe Street entrance that once also served as access to the staircase to the second floor until the early 1990s. The bedroom area contains a luxuriously comfortable 4-poster queen bed imposing challenges to stay awake lying on it while watching a movie on the new flat panel HD TV. Tasteful art and the original cast iron fireplace mantle complete the decor. The Suite includes a small but very functional kitchen with electric range, refrigerator, coffee pot and microwave oven. The private bath includes a 2-head shower and a jacuzzi whirlpool tub.Rates: $85.00 for a single night, 75 per day for 2 or more day stay and $1,250 per month for extend stay. The Magill House

 

This structure was built in the mid 1900's and is named in honor of a Louisiana Confederate soldier (Lt. David Weeks Magill) who was mortally wounded during the Civil War Siege of Vicksburg and buried on site. The center room serves as a common area for guests with laundry room and a fully equipped kitchen for guests desiring to prepare elaborate meals.

The Courtyard

The nicely landscaped terraced courtyard sits center stage of the property with a large deck protecting the region's oldest Japanese Magnolia tree while overlooking multiple gardens and water features forming a tranquil setting teaming with cardinals, wrens and an occasional visit by a pair of "hoot" owls. Gazebos, ample lawn furniture and charcoal grills awaiting use by our guests.

The base of the courtyard is a featured stop for local history tours as it includes the final resting place for Lt. D W. Magill who perished during the Siege of Vicksburg and an unexploded Union Mortar Shell on display.
